Visual Arts

Visual Arts classes at the ACA include art appreciation, painting, drawing, computer graphics, sculpture, ceramics, and pottery as well as a teaching major, leading to licensure for art instructors. Associate of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees may be earned through the ACA.

The Facility

The Visual Arts facilities of the Alabama Center for the Arts provide students a with state-of-the-art environment to learn to draw, design, paint, make original relief and intaglio prints and create computer art in large, well-equipped studios with natural lighting. The creative atmosphere and friendly attention of the staff and students encourages a student’s self-expression in art.

  • 3 computer labs with Mac IOS running the latest industry standard creative software
  • Ceramics lab with two slab rollers, two clay extruders, sixteen wheels, and state of the art mixing room and glazing room
  • 3D Design and Sculpture Room
  • Kiln Yard – which houses electric kilns and gas Raku & Bailey shuttle kilns
  • Painting Room
  • Drawing Room
  • Student Workroom
  • Printmaking Classroom
  • Art Classrooms
  • Lecture Rooms
  • Open space for painting and future growth
  • Art Gallery with multiple shows/exhibits per year (including some students, faculty/alumni shows, and also other established artists)
